The 2024 UEFA European Championship is approaching its end. It has reached the quarter-final with eight teams left, including past winners Germany, Portugal, and Spain.

Jamal Musiala, with three goals, leads the scorer's chart alongside Cody Gakpo, Georges Mikautazde and Ivan Schranz, although the last two have been eliminated.

Some top players, including 2016 Best Player Antoine Griezmann and 2020 Golden Boot winner Cristiano Ronaldo, have yet to score a goal.

Sports Brief looks at the five worst finishers left in the competition.

Worst finishers left at Euro 2024

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

If Ronaldo fails to score tonight and Portugal are eliminated, he will miss out on being the first player to score in six tournaments and the oldest-ever goal-scorer. He missed a penalty against Slovenia, thus underperforming his xG by 2.8, as noted by Planet Football.

2. Antoine Griezmann

This has not been the French forward’s year. Les Bleus have been underwhelming and have yet to score a goal from open play after four games. The Atletico Madrid star has an xG of 1.9 but has yet to register an attacking contribution.

3. Kai Havertz

The Arsenal star has two goals at the tournament so far but could have had more if finishing was one of his strengths. He has squandered an xG of 1.7 which could have seen him have four goals or more. He is expected to lead the line when Germany faces Spain later this evening.

4. Lamine Yamal

According to WhoScored, the Barcelona youngster has displayed his creative prowess with two assists and 13 chances created, but his finishing has been suspect. He has taken 11 shots with an xG of 1.5 but has failed to score for Spain.

5. Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe is playing in his second European tournament and scored his first goal at this year's edition from the penalty spot. He has not been at his best, though, as he has been playing with a mask after a broken nose. He has taken 12 shots and accumulated an xG of 1.5.

Didier Deschamps wary of Cristiano Ronaldo

Sports Brief also reported on Didier Deschamps hailing Cristiano Ronaldo as a dangerous player ahead of the quarter-final encounter between France and Portugal.

The France manager hailed the Portuguese captain as a dangerous man despite his failure to score so far, ahead of a repeat of the Euro 2016 final in the last eight.
