Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, appears to have rebounded from his emotional upheaval in the Round of 16, sending a clear warning to France ahead of their quarter-final clash.

The 39-year-old hasn't been in his typical goal-scoring form at Euro 2024, failing to score in four matches despite taking the most shots of any player in the tournament.

Nevertheless, he is looking to draw motivation from the last encounter between France and Portugal at Euro 2020, which ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with Ronaldo netting twice from the spot.

Ronaldo sends message to France

The veteran forward remains the most prolific player in European Championship history, with 14 goals across five editions and with a semi-final slot at stake, Cristiano is poised to leave a lasting impression on the tie.

As the highly-anticipated fixture approaches today (July 5), CR7 is optimistic and has already delivered a motivational message before taking the field in Hamburg.

He took to social media to pen a rallying cry in his native Portuguese, translated as follows: "We were, are and will always be all of us. Believe me, 🇵🇹!"

How did Portugal and France reach the quarter-finals?

Both Portugal and France secured their quarter-final spots at Euro 2024 on July 1, but neither did so convincingly.

Roberto Martínez's men had Diogo Costa to thank for his penalty heroics against Slovenia, as the FC Porto goalkeeper spared Ronaldo’s earlier blushes, per Bolavip.

The usually dependable marksman missed an extra-time penalty, which Jan Oblak saved, leaving the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in tears before he redeemed himself in the shootout.

On the same day, Jan Vertonghen's own goal helped Les Bleus edge past Belgium in Dusseldorf, but their struggles in front of goal persisted, Sportsmax reports.

Mbappe salutes Ronaldo

Sports Brief also reported on Mbappe expressing admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of their highly anticipated quarter-final clash in the 2024 European Championship.

Leading up to the match, the French captain praised the Portuguese veteran forward, stating there would never be another player like him, ahead of their on-field reunion.
