Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Enoh, wants a top-class foreign technical adviser for the Super Eagles and has advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) against hiring 'just anybody'.

The Super Eagles are without a coach after the resignation of Finidi George, who held the position for just 40 days and left after Nigeria’s poor results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

According to the Daily Post, Enoh has charged the NFF to get a first-class coach with a track record and pedigree, who will earn the respect of the Super Eagles players.

"It has to be a name that will inspire the spirit of our nation. He has to be a first-class coach with a track record, a pedigree, who will earn the respect of our players."

The NFF is expected to appoint a new foreign technical adviser for the Super Eagles before the team’s next competitive game in September.

Qualities needed by new Super Eagles coach

Meanwhile, ex-Enyimba coach, Kadiri Ikhana, has told the NFF to contract a foreign coach who is hungry for success and with total commitment to developing Nigerian football, Complete Sports reports.

The staunch advocate for indigenous coaches said that current challenges in the Super Eagles, particularly the top coaching position, have compelled him to join the call for the hiring of qualified foreign coaches.

The NFF are yet to disclose the number of foreign coaches that have applied for the Nigerian national team job although it is expected they are to name a new Super Eagles technical adviser soon.

CAR coach wants Super Eagles job

Sports Brief also reported that Central African Republic coach, Raoul Savoy, believes Nigeria is not hiring good foreign coaches and believes he could excel in that role.

The Super Eagles are at risk of missing a second straight World Cup tournament after a shambolic World Cup qualifier campaign, without a win with six matches to go.
