Mamelodi Sundowns manager, Rulani Mokwena, is reportedly prepared to leave the club as his relationship with the club's sporting director, Flemming Berg, has turned sour.

Berg, who previously worked as a scout with English club Chelsea, joined Masandawana last summer. He replaced Barcelona legend Jose Ramon Alexanko, who left in 2022.

It was gathered that Rulani does not have a good relationship with the director due to the players' movements.

The report added that the tactician is also keen to take a work break. SABC said in a publication:

"Mamelodi Sundowns and coach Rulani Mokwena are in talks to cut ties just 12 months after agreeing a four-year contract.
“The final and official decision is yet to be made following tense discussions, but the probability Mokwena will step down is high.
“It’s understood at the centre of this shocking development at Chloorkop is the broken working relationship between the coach and sporting director Flemming Berg.”

This comes barely 24 hours after the departure of four players from the club even as they prepare to head to Europe for preseason.

Sundowns head to Europe for preseason

Last summer, Sundowns had some preseason activities in the Netherlands, and according to chairman Thlopie Motsepe, the club will also head to Europe this time around.

He confirmed the destination in a message to the club's media:

“We trust that preparations will be in-depth and vigorous as they were in the Netherlands last year.
The camp in Austria will also assist with the preparations for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.”

Mokwena reacts to Zungu's exit

Sports Brief earlier reported that Rulani Mokwena finally reacted to Bongani Zungu's surprise exit from the Premier Soccer League club.

The tactician disclosed that he would have loved to keep the midfielder at the club, although a decision has been made.

Zungu posted a message on his social media platforms bidding farewell to the club, ending his stay with the 'Brazilians'.
