Kante has now become the player with the longest unbeaten run in the tournament's history, breaking former Spain midfielder, Xavi Hernandez's record.

According to statistics from Squawka, his run of 12 matches without defeat at the European Championship has made him the outright Euro record-holder.

The Saudi-based midfielder has won seven games and drawn five in 12 Euro games for the French national team.

Kante has been France's key player at the tournament, winning back-to-back Man of the Match awards before delivering the decisive assist against the Red Devils.

Per UEFA, the quarter-finals of the competition will see France will face 2016 Euro champions, Portugal, who needed a penalty shootout to overcome Slovenia on July 1.

France reach Euro quarter-final after Belgium win

Sports Brief also reported that Jan Vertonghen's late own goal took France into the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on Monday as they edged Belgium in a tense game.

Les Bleus had dominated the last-16 clash but their poor finishing looked set to send the tie to extra time until they finally found a way through with five minutes left.

Kolo Muani collected the ball inside the Belgian penalty area and hit a shot that was going wide until a deflection off Vertonghen sent it past keeper, Koen Casteels.
