Slovenia head coach Matjaz Kek has issued a strong warning to Portugal ahead of the two teams meeting in the Euro 2024 quarter-final clash today, July 1, 2024.

Portugal won Group F with six points, piping Turkiye to the first spot on goal difference, while Slovenia drew all three games in Group C and qualified as one of the best third-placed teams.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s side are one of the favourites to win the competition under head coach Roberto Martinez and bar their final group game, they have been one of the best teams.

Slovenia coach sends warning to Ronaldo’s Portugal

According to Opta Analyst, Portugal have a 74.5% chance of reaching the quarter-final, while their opponents, Slovenia, are backed at a 25.5% possibility of reaching the last eight.

Head coach Matjaz Kek admits his side is up against a superior side filled with quality players that makes them unpredictable, but his team will stick to their approach.

“Slovenia has not been the favourite in all three group matches, and we're not the favourites tomorrow. We're not afraid of them, we're really glad to be able to play against such teams. It will be a tough match, but we're really happy to be able to play it,” he said as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Their side of the draw is the most difficult, with France, Germany, Belgium, and Spain. If Slovenia were to have a chance of doing the unthinkable, they'd pull a lot of upsets.

Ronaldo eyes record against Slovenia

Sports Brief reported on Cristiano Ronaldo eyeing a record if he scores his first goal of the ongoing tournament against Slovenia in the quarter-final encounter.

The 39-year-old will become the oldest-ever goalscorer in the tournament’s history, surpassing Luka Modric, who set a new record on the final matchday in the group.
