Nigeria forward, Ademola Lookman, has won the Best African International award at the Ghana Football Awards held in Accra on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

The Atalanta forward beat off competition from compatriot Victor Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen star Edmund Tapsoba to win the award.

Lookman succeeds Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who won the award last year for his inspiring role in the Italian side's Serie A success.

"I just like to say a big thank you for the consideration, the recognition and the votes. This means a lot to me and my family and my football. I wish I was in Ghana but my heart is with you guys. Thank you and God bless always," he said in a video shared on social media.

The former Fulham and Leicester City forward enjoyed an outstanding year in football, leading the Super Eagles to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations before crowning the campaign with a hat-trick in the final of the Europa League against Bayer Leverkusen.

He was also instrumental as Atalanta finished fourth in the Serie A last season. Lookman scored 17 goals and delivered 10 assists across all competitions for the Bergamo-based club last season, per Transfermarkt.

Lookman has been attracting interest from top clubs in Europe with suitors from Saudi Arabia also monitoring his availability.

Kudus wins double at GF Awards

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mohammed Kudus enjoyed another triumphant night at the Ghana Football Awards held in Accra on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

The West Ham United midfielder bagged two awards, including the Ghana Player of the Year for his outstanding campaign in England last season as well as playing a starring role at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Kudus' impressive solo strike against Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League was also adjudged the best goal at the awards night.
