The Atalanta forward beat off competition from compatriot Victor Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen star Edmund Tapsoba to win the award.
Lookman succeeds Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who won the award last year for his inspiring role in the Italian side's Serie A success.
