Lionel Messi captured hearts with his heartwarming gesture towards former Barcelona teammate Claudio Bravo after Argentina secured a slim 1-0 victory against Chile in the 2024 Copa America.

La Albiceleste clashed with Chile at the Metlife Stadium on Tuesday, June 25, with the 41-year-old goalkeeper producing one of the best individual performances of the competition with numerous key saves.

According to the Vanguard, Argentina showed their steel and killer instinct as Lautaro Martinez’s 88th-minute strike would eventually seal the win for Lionel Scaloni’s men and book their spot in the Copa America quarter-finals.

Bravo would bag home the Man of the Match award, but his performance was not enough to spare the blushes for the Chileans who are in a dire spot regarding their qualification for the knockouts.

The result leaves Chile, Copa America winners in 2015 and 2016, needing to beat Canada on Saturday, June 29, to have hope of staying in the tournament.

Messi consoles ex-Barca teammate Bravo

Meanwhile, Messi paused an ongoing post-match interview involving Bravo just to console his ex-Barcelona teammate in the aftermath of Argentina’s victory against Chile, Sportskeeda reports.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was teammates with the Chilean goalkeeper for two seasons at Camo Nou from 2014 to 2016 before Bravo eventually left to join Manchester City in England.

Messi and Bravo lifted the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and Copa Del Rey in the goalkeeper’s first season before a domestic double in their second season together at Barcelona.

Messi wrestled down by Chile defenders

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that an unseen clip from Argentina’s Copa America Group A win over Chile has surfaced, showing just how afraid opponents are of Messi.

The video captures the moment Messi picks up the ball in the middle of the park before running at three Chile players and playing a pass forward.

Moments later, as the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is running into space to receive a pass, one of the players he dribbled past physically manhandles the forward, leaving him on the ground in hilarious yet unfortunate scenes.
