According to a report by iDiskiTimes, Kaizer Chiefs released an official statement on their website to confirm the death of Makwazi on Friday, June 28.

"Today, Kaizer Chiefs mourn the loss of a legendary figure following the passing of former defensive stalwart, John 'Buick' Makwazi, at the age of 77," the club stated.

The club confirmed that the legendary South African defender was survived by his five children, eleven grandchildren and his only sister.

"Makwazi is survived by his five children, eleven grandchildren and his only sister. And the Amakhosi Faithful will never forget John 'Buick' Makwati, a legend and hero forever," the club added.

Makwazi's achievement with Kaizer Chiefs

In his debut season with the Soweto Giants, Makwazi won the Castle Champion of Champions and the Chevrolet Champion of Champions.

The Buick, as he's been fondly called, went further to add the Benson and Hedges Cup and BP Top 32 the following year before winning the South African league titles in 1977 and 1979.

Kaizer Chiefs make decision on Cavin Johnson

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kaizer Chiefs have decided on Cavin Johnson's future at the club ahead of Nasreddine Nabi's rumoured arrival this summer.

The former SuperSport United manager failed to nail down Amakhosi's coaching role after working as an interim coach.

He joined the Glamour Boys as Head of Academy in September last year.
