Highlights of Nottingham Forest’s Brazilian defender, Murillo, have shown exactly why Chelsea are keen on signing him.

The Londoners appear to be in the mood for a spending spree this summer and have been linked with strikers, midfielders, and, as of Thursday, June 27, a defender.

Football insider, Fabrizio Romano, reported Thursday (June 27) that the Blues had contacted Forest about Murillo amid competition from other European clubs.

The Brazilian moved to the Premier League from FC Corinthians in his home country, performing well under Steve Cooper and new Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.

According to The Guardian, Forest is resigned to losing the 21-year-old due to the pressure of adhering to Profits and Sustainability Rules (PSR). However, the club will only let him go if their £70 million valuation of the player is met.

Why does Chelsea want Murillo?

After already losing Thiago Silva, there is a chance Trevor Chalobah could also leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chalobah’s potential exit was more evident after Chelsea signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer.

The Blues have a string of top players in defensive positions, including Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, and Benoît Badiashile, making Chalobah surplus to requirements at the club.

Despite six strong defenders at his disposal, the new Chelsea boss could do with a replacement for Silva, who was an integral part of the squad last season.

Murillo’s style of play

Since rumours of Murillo’s potential transfer to Chelsea emerged, highlights of the Brazilian’s style of play have emerged online, and it is easy to see why he is a hot prospect in Europe.

Not only is the 21-year-old excellent at reading the game, but he also appears to be quite prolific at making last-ditch tackles in one-on-one situations.

He also appears to be technically gifted, which is uncommon among defenders. According to Football London, this is because he used to play Futsal in his native Brazil.

From the clips doing rounds on social media, Murillo is not afraid of duels and has that natural South American spirit when it comes to being aggressive against opponents.

One interesting yet astonishing statistic about the Brazilian is he did not make a single mistake leading to a goal in the 32 appearances he made for Nottingham last season.

Jonathan David stats

Sports Brief also previously reported on why Chelsea want Jonathan David to be signed from Lille, having been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as early as January.

The Blues are reportedly looking for a natural goal-scorer and were initially interested in RB Leipzig forward, Benjamin Sesko, who recently committed to the German side.
