The Cottagers' chiefs are said to have remained firm in their valuation of the Portuguese midfielder and are reportedly unwilling to accept Bayern's offer of £40 million.

Interestingly, Bayern offered £60 million for Palhinha last summer, but the deal ultimately collapsed.

Since Palhinha’s deal could prove to be complicated, Bayern chiefs are exploring cheaper alternatives, with Onana emerging as a more plausible option to bolster the German giants' midfield.

Onana has bolstered his reputation as a dependable midfielder at Everton, where he made 29 appearances across all competitions last season.

On the international front, the 22-year-old is an ever-present figure on the Belgium team sheet, playing full minutes in all of the Red Devils’ three group games.

One factor that could encourage the midfielder to move to Bavaria is his familiarity with German football. Onana joined Hoffenheim in 2017 as a youth prospect and switched to Hamburg in 2020, per Transfermarkt.

However, he has yet to play in Germany’s top flight, as his stint with Hamburg was in the 2. Bundesliga in 2020/2021. At Hoffenheim, he never progressed beyond the B-team.
