Arsenal defender, William Saliba, was reportedly left stranded after the France national team bus 'abandoned' him shortly after the Euro 2024 clash against Poland.

Saliba has formed a key part of the Les Bleus team taking part in the continental tournament in Germany.

According to Metro UK, the centre-back was part of the squad that settled for a 1-1 draw in their final Group D clash against Poland staged at the Westfalenstadion.

Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski were both on target during the clash, with the new Real Madrid star opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 59th minute.

However, Lewandowski cancelled out France's lead 20 minutes later, with the Barcelona star firing from the spot to earn his side a point.

Saliba left stranded

The result saw France fail to top the pool, with Didier Deschamps' charges forced to settle for a second-place finish behind Austria.

However, there were more awkward outcomes awaiting Saliba, with the defender left behind by the team bus.

According to Le'Equipe, the centre-back had to stay behind as he was among the players selected for anti-doping tests.

It is understood that the 23-year-old made his way out of the stadium more than an hour and a half after his teammates had departed.

The defender was driven off in a black van with some members of the French staff.

Meanwhile, the 2018 World Cup champions will be waiting anxiously to discover their opponents for the next round of the tournament.

Hosts Germany, Spain, England, and Portugal are among the top teams who have booked their place in the last 16.

Why Deschamps doesn't play Saliba

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Deschaps explaining why he does not play Saliba often.

Despite Saliba playing a significant role at the Emirates, Deschamps seems not to have a soft spot for the 23-year-old.
