Who the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will appoint as the next coach of the Super Eagles remains the pressing question dominating the country's football scene.
Once again, the West African football powerhouse finds itself without a manager following the recent departure of Finidi George.
The former Enyimba coach stepped down after a series of disappointing results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Republic of Benin.

However, a recent report suggests that the federation might also consider a local coach for the national team.
According to a report from OwnGoalNigeria, the NFF is no longer entirely ruling out the idea of appointing a local manager for the Super Eagles.
The report highlights that the federation might consider Samson Siasia, who previously managed the Super Eagles twice.
The 56-year-old is currently serving a FIFA ban for alleged bribery and match-fixing charges from 2019. Siasia, who led the Nigerian team to a silver medal at the 2008 Olympics, is expected to complete his suspension in September, coinciding with Nigeria's next round of fixtures.
NFF reportedly eyes new foreign manager to replace Finidi as Super Eagles coach
FootballThis potential shift to consider local managers appears to contradict the federation's earlier statement that emphasised appointing a foreign tactician.
While the appointment of the next Super Eagles coach remains uncertain, the ongoing coaching saga is certainly one to watch closely.
In a previous report by Sports Brief, former Nigerian forward, Victor Ezeji, criticised the NFF following the departure of Finidi.
The 43-year-old emphasised that the federation should have shown more faith in the 53-year-old, similar to the support it extended to his predecessor, Jose Peseiro.
Despite Peseiro's underwhelming start as manager, the NFF maintained confidence in the former Sporting CP coach.
