Ghana defender Dennis Odoi has joined Belgium giants Royal Antwerp ahead of the 2024/25 season after leaving champions Club Brugge.

The veteran defender signed a deal that will keep him at Antwerp until the summer of 2026.

The former Fulham defender is expected to play a leading role at Royal Antwerp following his enormous experience in the league.

Belgian giants announce Odoi

Antwerp announced the arrival of the defender on their official website, posting: "RAFC has strengthened itself with Denis Odoi (36). The Ghanaian international comes over on a free transfer from Club Brugge and has signed a contract for two seasons. Odoi is a versatile player who, with his experience, can be of great importance in the young dressing room of RAFC. Good luck, Dennis!"

The 36-year-old has already begun training with the club as pre-season resumes ahead of the upcoming campaign in Belgium.

Odoi, a member of Ghana's team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, missed the World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.

However, he is expected to be fit for the new campaign and possibly return to the national team for the next international assignment.

The ex-Anderlecht player switched nationalities to play for Ghana in 2022, ten years after making his only appearance for Belgium, per Transfermarkt.

Last season, Royal Antwerp finished the campaign in sixth place, relinquishing the title they won the campaign before to Club Brugge, Odoi's former club.

Odoi's family watched defender at AFCON

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the family of Denis Odoi travelled from Belgium to watch the defender feature for the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast early this year.

The Belgian-born switched allegiance to represent Ghana at international level in 2022 and has since been a regular member of the Black Stars.

Odoi was named in Ghana's final squad for the tournament and started the first game for the Black Stars against Cape Verde.
