Kaizer Chiefs' busy off-season is underway.

The club is set to appoint Nasreddine Nabi as their new coach in the coming days, but a reshuffling of the squad has already started.

Benedict' Tso' Vilakazi, a former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star, suggested that free agent Bongani Zungu could be a good addition at Naturena.

Zungu surprised many when he announced his departure from Masandawana after two years. He joined the club in August 2022 for his second spell.

The 31-year-old played for Masandawana between 2013 and 2016 in his first spell. In total, he made 123 appearances for the PSL champions and won four league titles, one Nedbank Cup and one Telkom Knockout, and the inaugural African Football League, per Far Post.

Should Zungu join Kaizer Chiefs?

Amakhosi are expected to make wholesale changes to the squad that finished 10th in the 2023/24 season, their worst in the PSL era.

Vilakazi was surprised to learn that Zungu had left the Brazilians, and he felt no team in South Africa could persuade him to leave the club.

"...maybe he’s going to go to the Arabs in Saudi Arabia,” Tso said via iDiski Times. "That’s what came to my mind because I don’t think there’s really any team in South Africa that can convince him to leave Sundowns."

The 41-year-old said Chiefs might be a great option for the midfielder-turned-defender.

"If you look at midfielders that Chiefs have now, they don’t have a ball player. They don’t have a thinker. Zungu is a thinker, he’s good at marshalling the midfield, he’s not a hard tackler but he’s very smart to anticipate a move.”

Zungu had spells in Europe with Vitória de Guimarães, Amiens, and Rangers,

When will Nasreddine Nabi join Kaizer Chiefs?

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nasreddine Nabi had hinted at when he could become the Kaizer Chiefs' new coach.

The AS FAR Rabat coach will lead his current club in the Moroccan Throne Cup final against Raja Casablanca in the coming days.
