European giants, the Netherlands, have advanced to the last 16 of Euro 2024 after finishing third in Group D.
Heading into the final group fixtures, Ronald Koeman’s team topped the table, having secured a win against Poland and a draw against France.
However, the match against Austria started poorly for the Dutch, as Donyell Malen scored an own goal in the sixth minute, giving Ralf Rangnick's side a 1-0 lead.
During the first half, Netherlands manager Koeman substituted midfielder Joey Veerman after just 35 minutes, bringing on Xavi Simons from PSV Eindhoven.

In the second half, Liverpool star Cody Gakpo equalized to make it 1-1, but Austria regained the lead in the 59th minute.
Memphis Depay then made it 2-2 in the 75th minute, only for Marcel Sabitzer to score a brilliant goal in the 80th minute, resulting in a 3-2 victory for Austria.
Who the Netherlands could face in Round of 16
Despite the defeat and France’s draw with Poland, the Netherlands progressed as one of the best third-placed teams.
Looking ahead to the Round of 16, the Netherlands may face England if Gareth Southgate’s team finishes top of Group C.
Otherwise, they could potentially meet Spain or the winner of Group E, likely Belgium.

How Austria Surprised the Netherlands
Sports Brief earlier reported that Marcel Sabitzer lashed home to earn Austria a thrilling 3-2 win against the Netherlands on Tuesday and send his team through top of Euro 2024 Group D, ahead of tournament favourites France and the third-place Dutch.
All three nations are through to the last 16 but Ralf Rangnick's intense Austria side showed why some consider them dark horses to win the tournament for the first time on a rollicking afternoon in Berlin.
Donyell Malen's own goal sent Austria ahead but Cody Gakpo pulled the Dutch level early in the second half.
