Orlando Pirates could be the next destination for Stanley Nwabali as speculations continue to surround the future of the Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper.

The 27-year-old goalie has been linked with a move away from his current club Chippa United this summer with some top clubs in Saudi Arabia, England, and South Africa keeping tabs on him.

According to Complete Sports, ex-Pirates goalkeeper, Thabang Stemmer, believes signing Nwabali would add more depth and competition to Orlando Pirates’ squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.

“The reason Pirates released the two, I think it’s because they want to beef up with Stanley Nwabali. Even when I was still playing, Pirates always beefed up with top goalkeepers. All the big teams need top goalkeepers.
“Remember, Pirates go deeper in all competitions. If Nwabali comes, it would be a good thing for Pirates. We need competition.”

Orlando Pirates will have to battle El Ettifaq, Queens Park Rangers, and Kaizer Chiefs for the Nigerian goalkeeper when the summer transfer window opens.

Orlando Pirates clear path for Nwabali

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates appear to have cleared the path for the arrival of Nwabali next season after letting go of two of the club’s goalkeepers this summer, Afrik-Foot reports

The Sea Robbers have parted ways with Ghana’s national team goalkeeper Richard Ofori and one of their long-serving members Siyabonga Mpontshane following the end of their contracts.

Pirates currently have Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi as the goalkeepers left in their team ahead of the 2024/25 season and it is expected they will sign one more goalkeeper before the new season kicks off.

Nwabali keen to remain in South Africa

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Kaizer Chiefs-linked Super Eagles goalkeeper Nwabali has suggested that he would stay in the PSL.

The Chippa United and Nigeria goalkeeper said there are many reasons why players have no reason to move abroad.

Nwabali was Nigeria's hero at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and has been linked with a move abroad. However, no deal has materialized since the tournament concluded.
