No fewer than nine players were missing as Kaizer Chiefs returned to the Naturena for preseason activities amid Nasreddine Nabi's imminent announcement.

One month after the 2023/2024 DStv Premiership concluded, the Soweto giants are regrouping, but the squad was without some notable faces.

Chiefs endured their worst-ever performance in a season, finishing 10th in the Premier Soccer League and will not play in the next edition of the MTN8.

Several reports have it that Amakhosi are set to announce Nasreddine Nabi as their new head coach ahead of the coming season, with the Tunisian tactician billed to arrive next week.

Chiefs are experiencing a revamp of the technical crew following the arrival of assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz and goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi.

iDiski Times reports that the coaches were introduced to the players who were available in training on Monday.

Nine key players, including Edmilson Dove, Edson Castillo, George Matlou, Jasond Gonzalez, Keagan Dolly, Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti, Siyethemba Sithebe, and Tebogo Potsane, were reportedly absent from the session.

Potsane and Matlou are still nursing their injuries, but they are expected to stay at the club. Dove and Castillo, who were away on national duty, are expected to return.

Hlanti, Dolly, Sithebe and Gonzalez are out of contract, and they might not return to the club.

Ngcobo signed up with Sekhukhune United last week.

Long-serving goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was reportedly in the Kaizer Chiefs preseason squad on Monday, although his contract will expire at the end of June.

Amakhosi fans await Nabi's arrival

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kaizer Chiefs fans will have to wait longer for the official unveiling of Nasreddine Nabi as the club’s next head coach ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Tunisian tactician has reportedly agreed to become the next Amakhosi coach after talks with the management of the Soweto giants, who are desperate to bring in an experienced gaffer.

Nabi’s arrival at Kaizer Chiefs is set to be delayed due to his participation in the Moroccan Throne Cup after leading his current club, AS FAR Rabat, to the final.
