Gareth Southgate has been advised to start Cole Palmer in England’s final group fixture against Slovenia in the ongoing 2024 European Championships in Germany.

The Three Lions manager has preferred Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, and Harry Kane in attack for the European giants, leaving the Chelsea forward on the bench in their first two games against Serbia and Denmark.

According to Sportskeeda, ex-England forward, Chris Sutton, Gareth Southgate has called for a drastic change in Southgate’s line-up, advocating for Palmer to be in the starting XI against Slovenia.

"One thing which I have found quite baffling is the omission of Cole Palmer. I think given the season he had at Chelsea, it's quite baffling for him not to have been given any game time in the opening two games."

Palmer was one of England’s hottest strikers selected for Euro 2024, scoring 25 goals and 15 assists in 45 games for Chelsea last season.

Rooney fears for Southgate’s changes

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney fears England manager Southgate is set to make a mistake by dropping Arsenal star Bukayo Saka for Cole Palmer in the Three Lions' final Euro 2024 group game, Metro UK reports.

Southgate is expected to make changes for England’s final group game against Slovenia on Tuesday, June 25, after two underwhelming performances against Serbia and Denmark.

Rooney would not be surprised if the England manager withdrew Saka, and moved Manchester City's Phil Foden to the right while bringing in Palmer into the Three Lions attack.

Southgate blasted for benching Palmer

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that a section of fans has lambasted England manager Gareth Southgate for ignoring Palmer again during the Three Lions' Group C draw against Denmark on Thursday, June 20.

The English team began their Euro 2024 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Serbia on June 16, with Jude Bellingham scoring the crucial goal.
