Shooting Stars defender, Gbolagade Adelowo, has shared an emotional moment with his mother after being named the 2023-24 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Player of the Season.

The Ibadan-based club defeated Sporting Lagos 1-0 in their final game of the season at the Adamasingba Stadium.

The Southwest side failed to qualify for continental football but still had one of their players win arguably the most coveted award in the league.

In a viral video shared by Pooja Media on social media, Adelowo was seen sharing a beautiful moment with his mum while celebrating his NPFL Player of the Season award.

The defender played all 38 games in the Nigerian top-flight league in his debut season for 3SC.

In an interview with Sports 247, Adelowo praised his teammates and coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, for helping him win the award.

"Well, by the grace of God, I want to thank God for the strength and energy given to me," he said. "I want to thank God for the privilege, the team, the coaches, the fans for believing in me."

The 3SC defender also mentioned being privileged to play alongside two experienced wing-backs all through the season.

"If you look at our team, the people playing on my wing at centre-back, they are older than me, they have the experience. No disrespect to them, I give them respect," he added.

Sporting Lagos relegated to NNL after 3SC's loss

Sport Brief also reported that Sporting Lagos have dropped to the NNL after losing to Shooting Stars on the last day of the 2023/24 season.

Christian Pyagbara scored the game's only goal as 3SC condemned the Lagos-based club to relegation after the win in the Southwest derby.
