Semblances of squad disunity always seem to rock Belgium during a major tournament. The Red Devils have had one of the most talented squads in the world in the last century.

Retired legend Eden Hazard led this squad flanked by other mercurial talents like Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium's problems at past major tournaments

But for all their talents, the closest Belgium came to winning a major trophy was in 2018, when they reached the World Cup semi-finals.

Four years later, they failed to advance past the group stage in Qatar. Sports Brief reported that the main stars of the squad were not on the same page. De Bruyne had made controversial remarks, stating they were 'too old' to win anything.

Roberto Martinez left his post as head coach soon after.

His replacement, Domenico Tedesco, hasn't had much luck either. Courtois reportedly withdrew from the squad in 2023 after there was a spat on who was to become captain between him and Lukaku.

What Leandro Trossard's father said

The wrangles have come to the fore once again in Germany after Leandro Trossard's father tore apart the manager, questioning whether he was the right man to lead the national team.

The Arsenal star's father was far from happy that his son was being criticised for poor performances despite being played out of position.

"Leandro is criticised, but he was moved from one position to another; keeping a guideline in your game in these conditions is difficult. I don't think Tedesco is a good coach for Belgium," he told Belgian publication De Morgen via the Mirror.

Trossard started on the right wing in their shock defeat against Slovakia before he was dropped against Romania. He was introduced later in the game as Belgium managed to clinch a 2 -0 win and put their Euro campaign back on track.

They play Ukraine in a winner-take-it-all clash on Wednesday.

Toni Kroos' message to Euro 2024 rivals

Sports Brief has also reported that Toni Kroos has sent a warning to Euro 2024 rivals after Germany topped Group A.

Niclas Füllkrug scored in stoppage time to rescue a point against Switzerland on June 23 and ensure Julian Nagelsmann's charges went through as group winners.

Die Mannschaft will face the runner-up of Group C in the Round of 16.
