Portugal head coach, Robert Martinez, has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo's safety is now a concern after their Euro clash was marred by pitch invasions.

Seleção have enjoyed a dream start in their Euro 2024 campaign, having already booked their place in the round of 16 of the tournament.

Martinez kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in their Group F opener last Tuesday, June 18.

The Euro 2016 champions followed up the victory with a 3-0 huge win over Turkey on Saturday, June 22, to all but progress to the knockouts.

However, the weekend clash was marked by a series of pitch invasions, with Goal reporting that at least six pitch invaders made it to the turf.

The incidents were characterised by one of the pitch invaders grabbing Ronaldo's neck in a hugely worrying security breach as another youngster took a selfie with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Speaking on the incidents, Manchester City star Bernardo Silva brushed them off, noting that it was ‘the price we pay for being so recognised.'

However, Portuga's head coach, Martinez, has disagreed with Silva, insisting that his players need to be safeguarded from such security breaches.

"It’s a concern because today we were lucky that the intentions of the fans were good,’ he told reporters," he said via Metro UK.
"I think we all love a fan that recognises that big star and the big icons … but you can understand that there is a very, very difficult moment if those intentions are wrong," he added.

Portugal are scheduled to play Georgia in their final on Wednesday, June 26, in their final Group F fixture.
