Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Mothobi Mvala, has showered praises on his girlfriend for helping him through the storms in the course of the just-concluded season.

Mvala struggled during the last campaign and has been celebrated as much as he has been criticised as well.

The 30-year-old suggested that he could have lost faith in himself, but his mental strength and girlfriend have helped to get him going.

He was slammed for losing possession during their final league game against Cape Town City, during which Jayden Rhodes went through to score.

The goal marked Sundowns’ only defeat of the season as they failed to finish the season with the much-sought unbeaten record.

Mvala, however, stated that mistakes are part of the game. He said, as per iDiski Times:

“It’s something (mistakes) that happens to everyone. Not everyone will like you and it’s the nature of our profession or any athlete in the world.

"You just have to be strong as long as you have your family by your side."

He also applauded his girlfriend, mother and teammates for their support.

"My girlfriend is always there for me, my mother and teammates so they help me to recover quickly.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena finally reacted to Bongani Zungu's surprise exit from the Premier Soccer League club.
