It has been a little over a week since the Euro 2024 tournament kicked off in Germany.

The competition has thus far lived up to its billing, with Europe's top guns leaving a mark in the tourney.

With the first two rounds of group-stage matches already played, some teams have already booked their places in the knockouts, while others are facing an anxious wait to discover their fate.

Be that as it may, there is still plenty more to watch out for, with the likes of England and France yet to confirm their spot in the last 16.

On the other hand, hosts, Germany, have had a dream start to the tournament, with Euro Sport reporting that they were the first team to qualify for the knockout.

Sports Brief brings you a group-by-group guide on the teams that have sailed through to the next round and what others need to confirm their spot.

Group A

As mentioned above, Germany have booked their place in the last 16 regardless of what happens in their last group-stage fixture against Switzerland on Sunday night, June 23.

The hosts hammered Scotland 5-1 in their opening game before securing a 2-0 win over Hungary to top the pool.

Switzerland, who sit second with four points, need a win or a draw against Germany to ensure their passage.

However, they will also go through automatically if they lose and Scotland fail to beat Hungary.

Group B

In Group B, Spain are the only team that have so far confirmed their place in the last 16 after they beat Italy 1-0 last Thursday.

Albania and Croatia both need a miracle to qualify, while Italy, who are the defending champions, need at least a draw against Croatia in their next fixture to sail through.

Group C

Group C, which includes England and Denmark, is wide open after two rounds of fixtures.

The Three Lions need at least a draw against Slovenia to qualify for the last 16, while a win for Denmark against Serbia would be enough for them to continue in the tournament.

Group D

Robert Lewandowski's Poland became the first team to be eliminated in the pool after a nightmare start in the tournament.

Poland's elimination was confirmed after the Netherlands draw against France.

Austria can qualify if they beat the Netherlands, having already sealed at least third place in the group.

If France sees off Poland, they will qualify for the last 16 as one of the top two teams.

However, should Didier Deschamps' men draw, and Austria beat the Netherlands, the race for a spot in the top two will be decided by goal difference.

Group E

The pool has been quite competitive so far, with all the four teams tied on three points following Ukraine's 2-1 win over Slovakia and Belgium's 2-0 victory against Romania.

Depending on the outcome of the final round of fixtures, all four teams stand a chance of qualifying for the last 16.

Slovakia are scheduled to take on Romania, with Ukraine coming up against Belgium next Wednesday.

The winners of each fixture will directly qualify for the knockouts, with goal difference separating the top two teams.

Group F

In Group F, Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal are home and dry following their 3-0 win over Turkey on Saturday, June 22.

Turkey needs just one point against the Czech Republic next Wednesday to reach the knockouts.

Meanwhile, Georgia and the Czech Republic still have a chance to book a place in the last 16 after they played out a 1-1 draw.

Spain facing fine

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Spain could land in financial trouble for allowing Lamine Yamal to play at night at the ongoing 2024 Euros in Germany.

The 16-year-old has been one of the best players in the competition so far, but his involvement could see La Roja fined.
