FootballBarcelona Boss Ronald Koeman Makes Damning Admission After Latest Defeat
- Koeman admitted he is unsure of his future at Barcelona
- Barca is currently in a horrible rut after their latest defeat to Benfica in the Champions League
- The 3-0 loss against the Portuguese outfit piled more pressure on Koeman, who now says his future is out of his hands
- Barca are sixth in La Liga, five points behind Real Madrid
Ronald Koeman admitted he was unsure of whether the club would back him after another lowly 3-0 defeat, this time at the hands of Benfica in the Champions League.
After a 3-0 thrashing by Bayern Munich in their opener in the Champions League, the Blaugrana were second best for large parts of the game against a resurgent Benfica to pile more pressure on Koeman.
Barcelona face Atletico Madrid in their next La Liga fixture and there is heavy speculation that Koeman will not be in the dugout for that match.
Things look so bleak for the Dutch manager that he admitted himself that he is unsure what the future holds after defeat to Benfica.
“I don’t know what Barcelona think and what they will decide about my future. It’s not in my hands,” he said in his post-match interview.
Koeman also echoed Gerard Pique’s sentiments from the defeat to Bayern a fortnight ago, that the team was not good enough to win the Champions League.
"The result is hard to take. I don't think it's a fair reflection. After conceding so early we responded well but we couldn't score.
"They are very quick and strong. There are a lot teams stronger than us."
Domestically, Barca are also not fairing too well and have collected 12 points from their opening six games leaving them in sixth and five points behind leaders Real Madrid.
Frankie de Jong also spoke after the match where he reiterated sacking Koeman would not solve Barcelona’s problems.
