Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has finally reacted to Bongani Zungu's surprise exit from the Premier Soccer League club.

The tactician disclosed that he would have loved to keep the midfielder at the club, although a decision has been made.

Zungu posted a message on his social media platforms bidding farewell to the club, ending his stay with the 'Brazilians'.

He joined the Chloorkop outfit from French Ligue 1 side Amiens SC in August 2022.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a warm relationship with the team's manager, Mokwena, who admitted that he would have loved to keep working with the player.

Sundowns coach says he would have loved to keep Zungu

Mokwena told Powerfm987, as per iDiski Times:

“Always when contracts come to an end it’s quite complicated. Because it’s the agent, it’s the player, it’s the club, and I don’t get involved in that space.
"So that space is more for the Sporting Director and the football club.”

Asked if he would love to continue with the midfielder, the tactician added:

“Of course, of course yeah! Like I would’ve loved to keep Cassius [Mailula], just like I would’ve loved to keep Haashim Domingo. Sometimes in football… Eh, as I said to you. I said to you I would’ve loved to play Esperance on Saturday and it didn’t happen.
“Sometimes in life you don’t get what you want, and that’s the reality of the situation."

What's next for Zungu?

Sports Brief earlier reported that while he is yet to announce where he plans to go next, reports indicate that he could be heading to the Middle East.

Soccer Laduma noted that they were led to believe that the midfielder would be heading off to Saudi Arabia.

No teams in the wealthy nation have yet been credited as being interested in him, but the Saudi Pro League have already attracted many African stars.
