In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the trio and ex-Lyon forward Memphis Depay shared a heartwarming moment in the tunnel.

Mbappe made fun of Simons after wildly celebrating his goal only for the referee to rule it off.

In the video, he jokingly said as Simons approached: "He was thinking he was killing us."

The new Real Madrid signing was expected to wear a protective mask for Friday's game but coach Didier Deschamps decided to keep his captain on the bench.

The new Real Madrid signing will return to action in the final group game against Poland on June 25, as France eye a top-place finish in Group D.

Meanwhile, Simons and Wijnaldum have a tougher test in Austria on the same day, per UEFA.

Deschamps explains Mbappe's absence

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that France coach, Didier Deschamps disclosed that it was safer to keep Kylian Mbappe on the bench for the game against the Netherlands on Friday night.

The France captain suffered a broken nose in the opening Group D game against Austria and was expected to wear a protective mask for the game against the Dutch.
