Lamine Yamal at Euro 2024

At just 16 years old, Yamal has been a revelation since his debut against Croatia, where he became the youngest player in Euros history, per the BBC.

He has seized the opportunity with both hands and was at his devastating best against Italy, using his speed and skill to frequently leave the Azzurri defenders behind.

With two victories from their first two games, Spain has already secured a spot in the Round of 16, and Yamal is expected to maintain his impressive form in the upcoming matches.

Why Spain might be fined because of Lamine Yamal?

While Lamine is among the tournament's top performers so far, his participation could pose a legal issue for La Roja.

According to ZDF via Tribuna, Spain could face a fine of up to €30,000 for allowing the teenager to 'work' at night.

German law prohibits individuals under the age of 18 from working after 8 p.m., including foreign nationals like Yamal, who is competing professionally at Euro 2024.

But there is an exception for young athletes, permitting them to participate in sporting events until 11 p.m.

Although Spain is likely to avoid punishment—since legal expert Stephan Graf notes that violations of this law typically have no repercussions in sports—there remains a slight risk.

King of Spain stunned by Lamine Yamal

Sports Brief also reported that the King of Spain, Felipe Juan Pablo, was seen looking bewildered as he asked Lamine Yamal if he was really 16 years old following his outstanding performance against Italy.

While exchanging pleasantries with the players, Felipe VI expressed surprise and inquired about Yamal's age.

The Barcelona prodigy has exceeded expectations, delivering impressive moments in the two games he has played so far.
