N'golo Kante rolled back the years in France's opening match at Euro 2024 against Austria on June 17.

The Al-Ittihad midfielder was absent from the French squad in the last few years, but he showed that he still has the quality that makes him one of the best in the world.

After Les Bleus' narrow 1-0 win, Kante was named the man of the match and was celebrated by his teammates in the dressing room.

The former Chelsea star was superb throughout the match against an energetic Austrian side that threatened his team several times. He recovered possession seven times and received widespread acclaim from football fans, per 90min.

Before his appearance against Luxembourg in May 2024, Kante had not played for France since 2022.

The Premier League winner was instrumental in France's 2018 World Cup triumph and is looking to help the team win their third European crown.

In a video posted on X by France, Kante walked into the dressing room to loud cheers from his teammates. Didier Deschamps and Ibrahima Konate embraced him while others applauded him.

Kante has made 56 appearances for France. He made his debut in 2016 under Deschamps.

N'Golo Kante lauded by fans

Sports Brief also reported that Kante was saluted by fans after producing a superb recovery tackle to stop Austria from scoring late in the game.

The veteran midfielder sprinted from 40 metres back to stop Patrick Wimmer, who was through on goal after William Saliba had mistimed a tackle.

Oliseh praises Kante

Sports Brief also previously reported on Nigeria legend, Sunday Oliseh, praising Kante, saying he is his 'favourite defensive midfielder'.

After the French veteran's display, the former Borussia Dortmund star believes Les Bleus are now the favourites to win the Euro title this year.
