Opinions have continued to herald the scenes as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) commences the search for a manager for the Super Eagles.

The Nigerian team, who are staring at the potential of missing out on a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, are looking to appoint a fitting manager who can salvage what is fast becoming a horrendous qualification campaign.

However, as the search by the federation continues, former defender of the national team, Sam Sodje, has offered his take to the NFF regarding the calibre of manager the Super Eagles should appoint.

Sodje speaks on the next Super Eagles coach

In an interview reported by Footballlive.ng, the former Brentford defender emphasised the importance of appointing a high-quality and proven manager rather than any foreign manager who might not benefit the Super Eagles significantly.

"It’s not about having a technical adviser; it’s about choosing the right person. Right now, we need a manager who can come in and deliver instant results. Later, we can think about the long term," said the former international.

Supporting his argument, the 45-year-old added,

"But at this moment, we need a short-term manager who can motivate these players to deliver instant results, because our main goal is to qualify for the next Nations Cup and especially the World Cup."

According to reports from media outlet OwnGoalNigeria, the NFF is currently considering a pool of managers, including Antonio Conceicao, Cameroon coach Marc Brys, and French manager Didier Six.

It remains to be seen which of these managers the NFF will appoint.

NFF adds another coach to shortlist

In another report, Sports Brief stated that the NFF has added another foreign coach to the shortlist of potential managers for the Super Eagles.

The federation is currently considering up to three foreign managers to lead the West African football powerhouse.
