Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record even before taking to the pitch for Portugal at Euro 2024.

The 39-year-old led the Selecao in their Group F opener against Czechia at Leipzig's Red Bull Arena on June 18.

The Al-Nassr superstar's participation in this tournament marks him as the first player to compete in six European Championships, having been a part of every edition since the 2004 home Euros.

The Real Madrid legend has not only played in five previous Euros but has also scored in each one.

Ronaldo would have been the oldest outfield player in this year's European Championships, but his teammate Pepe, surpassed him at age 41.

The ex-Manchester United icon failed to score in the match but could still become the tournament's oldest-ever scorer later on in the competition.

Now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner netted 10 times during Portugal's flawless qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 and added two more in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland.

Guler breaks Ronaldo's record

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has lost one long-standing record at Euro 2024, per Opta Stats.

Real Madrid’s Arda Guler, aged 19 years and 114 days, scored a remarkable goal for Turkey against Georgia, breaking CR7's record as the youngest player to score on their Euros debut, which he set at 19 years and 128 days in 2004.

Portugal's Ronaldo praised by Czechia manager

Sports Brief also reported that Cristiano Ronaldo received top plaudits from opposition coach, Ivan Hasek, after Portugal's slim win over Czechia.

While the veteran was not among the goal-scorers in the Group F opener on June 18, CR7 played an important role by pressuring the Czech defenders.
