France-based Nigerian coach Onyekachi Apam has reacted after being linked with the vacant Super Eagles coaching position.

The former Nigerian international is being backed for the plum job after leading OGC Nice's U15 team to an unbeaten feat during the just-concluded season.

Following Finidi George's resignation as head coach, the Nigerian Football Federation announced a search for an expatriate to take charge of the national team.

Several tacticians, including Pitso Mosimane, Barc Brys, and Antonio Conciecao, have been linked with the job.

However, a viral tweet by Alex Onya, with the X handle @winexviv, suggested that the NFF should look inward.

Onyia went ahead to detail why Apam should be considered for the position after an incredible 2023/2024 season in France.

Sports Brief reached out to the OGC Nice U15 coach, who admitted that it is always an honour to represent the nation in any capacity. Asked if he is ready to take up the Super Eagles coaching job, he replied:

"I can consider taking the job but it depends on the terms and conditions and whom I would be working with. At the moment, I can't. We need to start with the junior team."

The 37-year-old, who earned 15 caps for Nigeria between 2007 and 2010, admitted that coaching a national team like the Super Eagles is tough. He added:

"It's not an easy thing to do. But if you have the right players, you can achieve so much."

NFF reportedly targets Marc Brys

Sports Brief also previously reported that Marc Brys is a coaching candidate being considered by the African football powerhouse to lead the Super Eagles.

Recently appointed head coach of the Cameroonian national team, the Belgian has reportedly clashed with Cameroon Football Federation boss Samuel Eto'o.

The Cameroonian legend openly criticised the appointment of Brys as manager after a decision said to have been taken by the country's sports minister.
