The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is again looking to appoint a new manager for the Super Eagles following the departure of Finidi George.

The 53-year-old announced he would step down from the role with the Super Eagles after only 47 days at the helm of affairs.

Finidi's decision follows a flurry of backlash he received following the underwhelming FIFA World Cup qualification fixtures against South Africa and the Republic of Benin.

The NFF, which is now keen on finding a suitable replacement to see the team qualify for the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup, has reportedly shifted its focus to the signing of Marc Brys.

NFF shifts focus to Marc Brys: report

According to a report from Belgian news outlet, Het Nieuwsblad, the 62-year-old manager is a strong candidate being considered by the African football powerhouse to lead the Nigerian team.

Brys, who was recently appointed head coach of the Cameroonian national team, has been in conflict with Cameroon Football Federation president, Samuel Eto'o, who has openly criticised the appointment of the gaffer, who was imposed on the national team by the country's sports minister.

The Belgian has gone on to make a positive start, seeing the team record a victory and a draw against Cape Verde and Angola, respectively.

However, the report highlights that while contact has been made between both parties, Brys has expressed his satisfaction with his current role in Cameroon.

It remains to be seen if the NFF can persuade the former Al Raed coach to reconsider.

Throughout the Belgian coach's extensive career, his most successful period came during his first stint with the Saudi Pro League club, where he achieved a win percentage of over 47%, according to data from Fotmob.

Adepoju speaks on NFF’s role in Finidi’s performance

Sports Brief also previously reported on Mutiu Adepoju's criticism of the NFF and their role in Finidi's underwhelming results.

The 53-year-old failed to impress in his two fixtures, recording a draw and a defeat, before stepping down as Nigeria coach.
