Kaizer Chiefs are at a critical juncture in their history.

They just concluded their worst season in the PSL and are close to appointing a coach to lead them forward.

Former Amakhosi star, Shane McGregor, has urged his former club to look at Mamelodi Sundowns to learn how to run a football club.

The Glamour Boys have not won silverware in the last nine years, and they hope their next coach can finally end the drought.

McGregor's advise to Kaizer Chiefs

McGregor highlighted Sundowns' structure, where everyone has their role, enabling the team to function smoothly. He called on Chiefs to learn from the league champions.

“I always say this: ‘have a look at Sundowns; look at how Sundowns is run’,” he said per iDiski Times. It’s run as an entity; it’s run as a professional outfit where you’ve got a president, and the guys answer to the president. Chiefs, they don’t do that."

The Amakhosi legend faulted the club's recruitment strategy, saying the club has to spend money wisely.

“They [Sundowns] first look at a player and make sure he’s the right player for the club before they sign him. Chiefs don’t do that, and as soon as guys learn that that’s the way to go, the better. Yes, they’ve got lots of money, but they spend money [wisely], and you know what? Chiefs have spent so much money in the last year or two and what have they got? Nothing.”

A new coach will be tasked with delivering a much better campaign. In 2023/24, Chiefs finished 10th in the DStv Premiership, 37 points behind champions, Sundowns.

When will Nabi join Kaizer Chiefs?

Sports Brief earlier reported that a date for Kaizer Chiefs' appointment of Nasreddine Nabi has been disclosed.

The former Young Africans coach will officially take over as their new coach on June 24 after his final match with his current team, AS FAR Rabat.
