Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, has explained how the Brazilians beat Kaizer Chiefs to the signing of Bafana Bafana star, Thapelo Morena.

The Glamour Boys were arguably the biggest team in the Premier Soccer League years ago, but they are losing their crown to Sundowns, who are slowly emerging as the most desirable club in South Africa.

Morena joined Masandawana from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2016 and has won the South African Premier Division six times.

According to a report by the South African, Mosimane is glad that the Bafana Bafana defender has continued to impress on the pitch since signing him for the Brazilians eight years ago.

"I am happy to see Thapelo Morena gracing the back pages of the newspapers; he's a very good player," he said during an interview with RADIO 2000.

The former Al Ahly coach also narrated how he signed the South African international for the Brazilians despite strong interests from Kaizer Chiefs.

"When we signed him at Sundowns, I had to go to Randfontein to convince his parents to sign with us," he added.
"It was tough because even Kaizer Chiefs wanted him at that time. So I am glad I played my part."

Morena is an important member of Hugo Broos' South African national team squad and also Rulani Mokwena's Sundowns.

Mosimane outlines main problem with Amakhosi

Sports Brief earlier reported that Mosimane outlined the main problem with Kaizer Chiefs amid links with the vacant coaching role at the club.

Mosimane, who dominated the PSL with Mamelodi Sundowns, admitted that the Amakhosi job is difficult, and things need to be right for the project to be successful.

Chiefs are coming off an awful season. They finished 10th in the DStv Premiership, their worst in the PSL era.
