Victor Osimhen launched a scathing attack on Nigeria coach, Finidi George, on Saturday, June 15.

The Napoli superstar was responding to comments Finidi allegedly made about his commitment to the national team during the latest World Cup qualifiers.

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peterside Idaho, has criticised the African Footballer of the Year, to apologise.

Before Nigeria's 2026 World Cup against South Africa and Benin, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) released a statement saying Osimhen will be out for four weeks with an injury.

The two matches were Finidi's first competitive matches as coach and were not great. The Super Eagles were held to a draw by Bafana Bafana and suffered a painful defeat to Benin.

Days later, reports emerged that Finidi had allegedly questioned Osimhen's commitment to the team and that he wouldn't beg players to represent the team. Multiple reports recently indicated that Finidi had resigned from his role.

Osimehn then went on Instagram Live to respond to those allegations and did not hold back.

“I’ve lost respect for that man now,” he said. “I spoke with him (Finidi) requesting that I join the Super Eagles camp to be with my teammates. But he told me not to bother and that I should stay with my family – I have a video of the conversation,” he said via Channels TV.
“Everybody knows I play my heart out whether it is in clubside or national team. I won’t allow anybody to disrespect me...I don’t care if what Finidi said is true or false."

Osimhen also missed the March friendlies against Ghana and Mali. He last played for the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final on February 11 against Ivory Coast.

Peterside Idaho slams Victor Osimhen

Idaho was not happy with Osimhen's comments about Finidi, who has been in the coaching role for less than two months.

You need to come openly and apologize for the things you said to Finidi. Finidi George is a legend. If you have issue call him. That's what responsible people do. I think the NFF should call Victor Oshimen and ask him to apologize, he must apologize, he has to apologize for ranting his mouth for saying things," Peterside said via journalist Dare Kuti.
“I think action should be taken or be banned from the national team because if we allow this kind of thing to continue, it will not go well for Nigeria,"

It remains to be seen what the NFF and Osimhen will do next since it appears this issue is far from over.

Why Finidi George resigned

Sports Brief earlier reported on why Finidi George reportedly resigned from his role as Nigeria coach.

The 1994 AFCON winner was reportedly not informed by NFF that a technical adviser would be brought on board to support him.
