Thuram pokes fun at Mbappe's looks

Ahead of their tie against Austria, the 26-year-old left reporters in stitches when a journalist mistakenly referred to him as Kylian.

“I’m more handsome than Kylian. I don’t look like a ninja turtle,” he jokingly said, as quoted by ESPN.

Thuram, who played a crucial role in Inter Milan's 20th Scudetto victory in the 2023–24 season, is gearing up to lead Les Bleus' attack alongside Mbappe, with Olivier Giroud also in the mix.

Marcus' quip about being "more handsome" than Mbappe was clearly all in good fun.

Why is Mbappe called Ninja Turtle?

Mbappe, known for his charming looks, has a massive social media fan following. He is often humorously nicknamed with the 'emoji' of a tortoise, symbolising his speed and agility on the field.

Like many football stars, the new Real Madrid signing has collected various nicknames, including the famous "Ninja Turtle."

According to MARCA, the 25-year-old earned the nickname during his early days at PSG after joining from AS Monaco in 2017.

His new teammates in Paris welcomed him with an iota of mischief, which soon spilled over onto social media.

The PSG squad playfully linked Mbappe to the Ninja Turtles, referencing the popular children's TV series for some light-hearted humour.

Mbappe wows fans with impeccable English accent

In a previous publication, Sports Brief reported that football enthusiasts were taken aback by Mbappe's accent during a recent interview leading up to Euro 2024.

Mbappe spoke impeccable English in his chat with CNN, almost masking his French roots entirely.

The interview clip quickly amassed 18 million views, sparking widespread surprise among viewers at the Frenchman's distinctly American-sounding accent.
