Sports Brief looks at the youngest goal scorers at the tournament.

European Championship younger goalscorers

1. Johan Vonlanthen

According to Opta, the Swiss became the youngest scorer in the competition's history when he scored against France in Euro 2004 at 18 years, 141 days. Vonlanthen broke the record set by Wayne Rooney four days earlier at the same tournament.

2. Wayne Rooney

The former England international had the honour of being the youngest for four days before Vonlanthen took the record. Rooney, at 18 years and 237 days, scored twice against Switzerland at Euro 2024, the youngest player to score twice.

3. Renato Sanches

Sanches broke onto the scene at Euro 2016, helping Portugal win their first major trophy in France. He scored the equaliser against Poland in the quarter-final, earning him the record of the third youngest goalscorer at 18 years and 317 days.

4. Dragan Stojkovic

The Yugoslavian star scored only once at the tournament, earning him the record of the youngest scorer, which stood for 30 years before Rooney broke it at Euro 2024. Stojkovic's goal came in the 3-2 loss to France in 1984 at 19 years, 108 days.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo played in his first international tournament for Portugal in Euro 2004 and became one of the youngest goal-scorers at 19 years and 128 days old, against Greece. According to Sportskeeda, he is set to become the first player to play at six Euros this year.
