According to Mbappe, the Euros are difficult right from the group stages through to the knockouts.

"In my opinion, it's a more challenging competition than a World Cup," The Mirror quoted Mbappe saying.
"It's very tough starting from group stages. It's a competition we haven't won for 24 years which is huge," the French star added.

Martinez hits back at Mbappe's Euro claim

However, Martinez, who won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, has disagreed with Mbappe.

Speaking to Clarin, the former Ajax centre-back was asked about his opinion on Mbappe's claim, and said:

"I leave his opinion up to him; I have a different view of things, I don't underestimate nor assume anything, all competitions are very hard to win," the 26-year-old said.

Lionel Messi is the other high-profile footballer who has recently shared his insights on Mbappe's suggestion.

The multiple Ballon d'Or winner insisted that the World Cup is more competitive than any other tournament.

"The World Cup is where the best are, generally, all the world champions. Everyone wants to be world champion," Messi said.

Meanwhile, Mbappe will be hoping to help France conquer Europe during the continental showpiece.

The 2018 World Cup champions, along with Poland, the Netherlands, and Austria, are in Group D of the tournament.
