The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is diligently exploring all viable options to ensure the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Americas.

The football federation, which only recently entrusted Finidi George with the responsibility of qualifying the team for the showpiece event, has been left to rue their decision, as the 53-year-old commenced his stint as manager, picking up only one point from a possible six.

In a bid to address this increasingly concerning and potentially embarrassing situation, the NFF is considering appointing a foreign technical adviser to take charge of the team. Additionally, they have disclosed further plans for the Super Eagles squad.

NFF discloses plan for Super Eagles

According to a communique issued by the NFF, the Super Eagles will be getting a foreign technical adviser to lead the team through the qualification campaigns for both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The football federation also announced plans to revamp the technical committee of the national team to ensure that the best personnel are available to support the incoming adviser effectively.

Additionally, the NFF will implement a more comprehensive scouting program to identify outstanding Nigeria-eligible players from around the world who can add significant value to the Super Eagles.

This decision could see a number of talented players, including Chelsea’s latest signing, Tosin Adarabioyo and Crystal Palace attacker, Michael Olise, donning the green and white jersey of the Super Eagles.

According to data courtesy of Fotmob, the Super Eagles currently sit fifth in their World Cup qualification standings, having recorded no wins in their four fixtures.

Conceicao tops NFF coaching shortlist

Sports Brief in a previous report stated that Portuguese coach, Antonio Conceicao, currently tops the NFF list of favourites to replace Finidi.

The former Braga manager had always been keen on coaching Nigeria. The 62-year-old claimed bronze at the 2021 AFCON with Cameroon.

The former CFR Cluj manager previously applied to manage the Nigerian team before Finidi's appointment.
