The club's underwhelming campaign sparked fears that the former Ajax boss could be replaced by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner.

So uncertain his future was that Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel had been heavily linked with the Old Trafford role.

However, that won't be the case, with Sky Sports reporting that United chiefs have resolved to stick with the Dutchman.

How ten Hag convinced Man United to retain him

The decision was made after a two-week end-of-season review led by Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford.

It is understood that three areas key areas influenced the decision in ten Hag's favour.

The first of these was the success brought by the ex-Ajax boss in the form of trophies.

The 54-year-old has won two trophies in two years, including their most recent triumph in the FA Cup.

Before winning the Carabao Cup in 2023, The Guardian reports that United had gone six years without winning a trophy.

The quality of the performance in the final weeks of the campaign was the other aspect that played in favour of the United boss.

Finally, the development of youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo also played a key part.

Poch dropped from Man United shortlist

Sports Brief previously reported on Manchester United deciding against Mauricio Pochettino to replace Erik ten Hag.

The embattled Dutch manager had been facing an uncertain future after the club's disappointing 2023/24 campaign.
