Former South Africa midfielder Teko Modise has advised Kaizer Chiefs to follow the blueprint of Mamelodi Sundowns following their rise from trials to triumphs.

Chiefs have struggled since winning their last major title in 2015 and endured their worst campaign in the South African topflight league in the just-ended season.

The Naturena-based side are currently on the hunt for a new coach with names like Pitso Mosimane and Nasreddine Nabi leading the race.

While the search for a new coach intensifies, Modise, who spent most of his career at Sundowns, believes Chiefs could pick one of two from his former club.

He said via Soccer Laduma:

"The thing is like, as much as everybody needs Chiefs to be competitive, who are we to put a time frame on transition?" he asked during the Super Sports media launch of Euro 2024.
"Teams do transition. When coach Pitso came to Sundowns. We were last on the log. Then what happened? Mamelodi Sundowns became what it is. But when we were transitioning it was a problem.

Modise went on to advise Chiefs to find the right coach and players and start the process of transforming the club as soon as possible.

The ex-Bafana Bafana player believes when Chiefs are competitive, the league becomes more exciting.

“I can imagine the stress that they have because they also want to see the team compete. We wanna see the team compete. If Chiefs, Sundowns and Pirates compete, the league becomes exciting," he concluded.

Chiefs lost their final game of the season to Cape Town Spurs to finish the campaign in tenth place, as reported by SuperSport.

Chiefs advised to appoint Benni McCarthy

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former South Africa winger Lebohang Mokoena advised Kaizer Chiefs to appoint Benni McCarthy as the club's new manager.

Amakhosi are still looking for a new coach, with Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi emerging as the frontrunner.

Mokoena, affectionately known as Cheeseboy, wants Chiefs to give the job to McCarthy, who is set to end his time as Manchester United's striker coach.
