As Nigeria continue to struggle in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, South African tactician Pitso Mosimane has critically analysed the squad.

'Jingles', as Pitso is fondly called, was linked with the Super Eagles coaching position shortly after Jose Peseiro left the team upon the expiration of his contract.

Nigeria's chances of World Cup qualification look bleak after they managed just three points from a possible 12.

With 1-1 draws in their first three matches of the campaign against Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa, Nigeria lost 2-1 to neighbours Benin Republic, sparking outrage among fans.

Afrik-Foot reports that Abha Club manager Pitso Mosimane was linked with the Nigerian job, but the NFF went on to appoint ex-international Finidi George, who failed in his first task.

Pitso compared the Super Eagles with Brazil, saying it would be tough for coaches to handle a team with too many talents. The tactician said on Sports Night Amplified, anchored by Andile :

"Nigeria struggles with the system the shape of how we play. The problem is when you have too many good football players, it's nearly the same as Brazil.
"When you have too much talent and the coach doesn't eve know whom to play, where to play, the coach is impatient now that the scoreline is not good. There is no patience.
"France got a settled team, Mbappe is gonna play, no matter what. Dembele can dribble everybody, but it's Mbappe what will play."

Pitso opens up on botched Eagles job

Sports Brief earlier reported Pitso Mosimane opened up on his botched Super Eagles coaching job, saying the legendary Jay-Jay Okocha backed him.

After Jose Peseiro's contract with Nigeria ended in February, the former Mamelodi Sundowns manager was heavily linked to the job.

Nigeria went on to appoint Finidi George as the new head coach, but the ex-international failed to get the desired result in his first assignment.
