A number of top attacking players will be hoping to transfer their club form to their countries and perhaps go for the Golden Boot.

But which nations have the best attacks in this year’s edition of the Euros? Sports Brief explores the nations with world-class attackers and intimidating squad depth.

Portugal

Roberto Martinez’s side arguably has the best attack of any nation in the Euros.

Not only does Portugal have the all-time top scorer in the Euros, Cristiano Ronaldo, to rely on, but the nation also boasts a number of talented players who are key figures for their respective clubs.

The trio of Diogo Jota, Rafael Leao and Bruno Fernandes were all brilliant for their clubs, as they all registered 15 goals each.

Leao and Fernandes are also creative attackers, capable of picking key passes for their teammates to score.

In addition, Martinez also has the luxury of picking Ruben Neves or Paris Saing-Germain midfielder Vitinha, The two players registered 19 and 14 goal contributions for their clubs, respectively, according to the

Germany

Germany has been somewhat of a sleeping giant in recent years.

Under Julian Nagelsmann, Die Mannschaft is hoping to regain its lost glory, and it has a good chance of doing so, mainly because of the attacking talent the nation possesses.

The 26 players in Nagelsmann’s Euros squad scored 163 goals at club level in the 2023/2024 season. That should tell you enough about the Germans’ ability to score goals.

There is intense competition in Germany’s attacking positions, with Stuttgart loanee Deniz Undav and nd 16-goal Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier set to compete with Kai Havertz and Niclas Fullkrug for the centre-forward spot.

Germany also has last season’s Bundesliga player of the season, Florian Wirtz, at their disposal.

England

The fact that there was no room for Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish in Gareth Southgate’s final squad tells you everything you need to know about England’s squad depth.

The Three Lions have little margin for error in this year’s edition, and with the attack they boast, it is safe to say England are among the favourites to win the tournament.

Southgate’s 26-man squad scored a combined 242 goals last season, more than any other nation on this list.

France

The 2022 World Cup finalists have arguably the most frightening starting XI.

Didier Deschamps’ most prolific Frenchman at club level was Kylian Mbappe, who netted 44 goals in 2023/2024 for Paris Saint-Germain before leaving for Real Madrid.

Les Blues also have Antoine Griezmann, who had an impressive season with Atletico Madrid with 24 goals and eight assists, per SportsMole.

Besides Marcus Thuram, Randal Kolo Muan, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola, France also have a secret weapon in Olivier Giroud, who has developed a knack for carrying his nation when it needs him at major tournaments.

Spain

It would be a mistake to ‘sleep’ on Spain.

The Spaniards are seeking a record fourth European championship, with coach Luis de la Fuente taking no chances with his squad selection.

La Roja’s squad scored a combined 166 goals at club level, with veteran striker Alvaro Morata enjoying a prolific 21-goal season.

Morata faces competition in the starting lineup from 34-year-old Joselu; but one stand-out player to watch out for is Lamine Yamal, who contributed seven goals and 10 assists in his breakout campaign in the La Liga.

Other players in the Spain squad who are capable of hurting defences include Ferran Torres, Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Portugal’s scary squad depth

Sports Brief earlier analysed Portugal’s squad and the immense depth Seleção enjoys ahead of the Euros.

Portugal’s squad is a mix of promising young talent, players in their prime and veteran superstars like Ronaldo.

Unlike many of the squads of the teams in the Euro 2024, Portugal hardly has any player who can be considered ‘second choice’, a dynamic that will make it difficult for Roberto Martinez to pick a consistent starting XI.
