Concerns have grown over the status of Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy after reports claimed that Erik ten Hag will remain Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils have ended speculations over ten Hag's future, as the Dutchman is expected to stay, but McCarthy's status remains uncertain.

The South African joined the Red Devils in 2022 as their attacking coach after signing a two-year deal to help the club's forwards.

As his contract at Old Trafford is billed to expire this summer, the former striker might be out of a job next season, although he has been linked with several clubs back home and abroad

Kaizer Chiefs, Cape Town City, and AmaZulu have shown interest in the 46-year-old, who is also on the radar of some MLS teams as well.

There is no communication about whether United would offer him a contract extension, an opportunity he would likely jump at, given that he was a boyhood Red Devils supporter.

Afrik Foot reports that ten Hag could still add McCarthy to his plans for the coming 2024/2025 season upon his contract extension.

Despite an enduring last season, during which they finished eighth in the Premier League standings, United resolved to continue with the Dutch tactician.

It seems the FA Cup triumph over fierce rivals Manchester City changed the opinion of the decision-makers. Contract talks will begin with Ten Had in the coming days, which could be good news for McCarthy.

Lebohang Mokoena backs McCarthy for Chiefs job

Sports Brief earlier reported that former South Africa winger Lebohang Mokoena is backing legendary forward Benni McCarthy to excel in the vacant Kaizer Chiefs coaching job.

Amakhosi are still looking for a new coach, with Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi emerging as the frontrunner.

Mokoena, affectionately known as Cheeseboy, wants Chiefs to give the job to McCarthy, who is set to end his time as Manchester United's striker coach.
