Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for Portugal in a dominant 3-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday, their final warm-up friendly before Euro 2024.

The 39-year-old, who was benched during the Croatia match, started against Ireland in Aveiro and, after a near miss in the first half, dismantled the visitors in the second half.

Joao Felix opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a smart finish following a short corner routine.

Ronaldo nearly doubled the lead, but his deflected free-kick hit the post.

Ronaldo strikes twice after break

The Al-Nassr striker appealed for a penalty after going down under pressure and later directed a promising shot straight at Caoimhin Kelleher near the end of the first half.

Ronaldo didn't have to wait long to score, as he struck shortly after the break with a sublime effort curled into the top corner, Goal reported.

The former Real Madrid marksman soon added another goal after Diogo Jota set him up in the area, bringing his record-extending international tally to 130 with a confident finish.

Ronaldo narrowly missed completing his hat-trick, firing inches wide as Ireland, under interim coach John O'Shea, began to tire.

His two goals against Ireland increased his international tally to an impressive 130 goals, 22 more than second-placed Ali Daei and 24 more than his arch-rival Lionel Messi, per the Olympics.

Despite their dominance, Portugal couldn't extend their lead further. Euro 2024 kicks off on Friday, with Portugal facing the Czech Republic in their first match on June 18, followed by games against Turkey and Georgia in Group F.

Ronaldo's touching gesture before Portugal game

Sports Brief also reported that Cristiano Ronaldo moved fans with a touching gesture before Portugal's final warm-up game against Ireland.

In a video circulating on social media, the veteran forward is seen gently pushing a girl with cerebral palsy in a wheelchair onto the pitch.

The Al-Nassr star easily bonded with the girl, escorting her onto the field while his teammates walked with their pre-match companions.
