Jordan Ayew has discussed being played out of position for several years for both club and country and refusing to complain because of a desire to help his team.

The Crystal Palace forward scored a hat-trick on Monday evening, June 10, as the Black Stars defeated the Central African Republic in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

After coming off the bench to score the winner against Mali last Thursday in Bamako, coach Otto Addo started Ayew in his favourite position against the Wild Beast.

The 32-year-old repaid the manager's trust with a Man of the Match performance as Ghana moved to the top of Group I in the CAF qualifiers.

"I've been playing out of position for quite some time in the national team and also at the club level. But I have always done my duty, put my country first, and never complained because I always give my all," Ayew said at the post-match presser.

He admitted it had been a difficult situation and said he preferred not to discuss it.

"But obviously, my favourite position right from the academy, France, in the national team has always been as a number 9. But I understand because I have qualities that allow me to play in the pockets of spaces, and I don't complain."

Ayew was making his 101st appearance for the Black Stars against the Central African Republic, becoming the third most-capped Ghanaian player, per Transfermarkt.

Sports Brief also previously reported that Jordan Ayew scored a hat-trick to keep his nation's World Cup qualification hopes with a comeback at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Louis Mafouta's first-half brace for the Central African Republic had the Black Stars on the ropes but a strong display in the second half saw Ghana earn a deserved 4-3 victory.

Ghana made their early pressure count after Leicester City winger, Abdul Fatawu Issahku, was fouled in the CAR box and the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty attempt.
