Kaizer Chiefs are in the process of hiring a new coach to take them forward following a disastrous 2023/24 season that saw them finish 10th in the DStv Premiership.

Tacticians Pitso Mosimane, Manqoba Mngqithi, Alexandre Santos, Miguel Gamondi, and Nasreddine Nabi have been linked with the job at Naturena.

Gamondi, the current Young Africans coach, has reportedly signed a new deal and, therefore, won't be coaching Amakhosi next season.

Gamondi was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Chiefs role, but his name has faded in the last few weeks, with Nabi becoming the frontrunner.

Yanga president Hersi Said announced a one-year contract extension for Gamondi in a general meeting held on Sunday, June 9, according to The Citizen.

In his first season with Yanga, he led them to their 30th Premier League title and the CRDB Federation Cup. He also helped the club reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the first time in 25 years. They reached the quarter-final in a superb season.

Gamondi succeeded Nabi, another Chiefs coaching target, and his new deal signals the end of a possible move to Amakhosi.

The 57-year-old was considered a perfect candidate for the role, given he coached in the PSL before. He won the title with Mamelodi Sundowns as co-coach with Neil Tovey in 2007, per Far Post.

Nabi gives demands to Chiefs

Sports Brief previously reported on leading candidate for the coaching role, Nabi, giving Kaizer Chiefs two demands before he can become the coach.

The Tunisian tactician, who is also the current coach of AS FAR Rabat, needed to hear about the project and preferred to choose his backroom staff.

Mashamaite outlines Kaizer Chiefs' main problem

Sports Brief also earlier reported on former Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite, explaining why players are not the problem at the club.

He said Chiefs need to create a culture at Naturena and also instil a winning mentality, which will help the club become successful.
