Jack Grealish was one of the seven players trimmed from England's initial 33-man squad before arriving at the final 26-man squad that will represent the country at Euro 2024.

The Manchester City forward played 30 minutes in the 3-0 friendly win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, assisting Trent Alexander-Arnold for the second goal.

According to The Telegraph, his omission was not taken in good light by some squad members, who questioned Gareth Southgate for leaving out one of the experienced members.

As noted by Transfermarkt, in the 2023/24 season, he scored three goals and provided three assists in 36 games in all competitions despite starting 25 of those games but completed the 90 minutes only four times. He also missed six games due to injury.

Comparing Grealish to other England wingers

1. Phil Foden

Grealish teammate Foden was in top form this season and was named the Premier League Player of the Season. He played in 53 games in all competitions, scored 27 times, and provided 12 assists to help City win their fourth consecutive title.

2. Bukayo Saka

Saka was instrumental to Arsenal’s title chase for the second consecutive season, even though the Gunners failed to beat City to the trophy yet again. The Hale End graduate. He netted 20 goals and 14 assists in 47 games to help Mikel Arteta’s side reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

3. Cole Palmer

Palmer had a breakout season at Chelsea after leaving boyhood club City. He was critical to the Blues finishing sixth and reaching the final of the Carabao Cup. He scored 27 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions, including in the UEFA Super Cup final for Man City.

4. Eberechi Eze

Eze is going to his first major tournament with England after snubbing calls from Nigeria. He is one of the four Crystal Palace players in the squad, the most of any team. He scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 27 games playing under two managers, Roy Hodgson and Oliver Glasner.

5. Anthony Gordon

Gordon joined Newcastle in 2023 after leaving relegation battlers Everton. This year, he enjoyed a stellar season, hitting double digits in both goals and assists – 23 attacking contributions in 48 games.

6. Jarrod Bowen

West Ham winger Bowen improved on his last season’s performance, scoring 20 goals and 10 assists in 44 games in all competitions for West Ham as they reached the quarter-final of the UEFA Europa League. He was named the club's Player of the Year.

Conclusion: All six selected attackers performed better than Grealish, and his exclusion was based on merit.

Maupay troll Maddison for England’s omission

Sports Brief reported on Brentford striker Neal Maupay trolling James Maddison on social media after the Tottenham Hotspur forward was left out of England's Euro 2024 squad.

Maupay uploaded a photo of himself playing darts shortly after the announcement was made, referencing the clash between the two players after the Frenchman copied Maddison’s celebration during a Premier League match.
