Senegal forward, Sadio Mane, was left frustrated after the Teranga Lions were held at home in their World Cup qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Al-Nassr star missed the game due to an injury he picked in the King's Cup final against Al-Hilal but was at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium to support his teammates.

Senegal opened the scoring in the first half through Ismaila Sarr, but a late Fiston Mayele strike saw the game end with the two teams sharing the spoils.

The West African powerhouse was held in their second Group B game by Togo and another draw leaves them second in Group B behind leaders Sudan, who defeated Mauritania 2-0 on Wednesday.

According to Mane, it is time for the system to be varied as it appears it is not working for the team.

“To be formidable, we must review our system,” he said, as quoted by 13 Football. “I think we need to see him again because we tried to play several combinations and it didn’t work,” he added.

The 2002 World Cup quarter-finalist will next face neighbours Mauritania with hopes of bouncing back in the qualifiers per Sofascore.

The Teranga Lions represented Africa at the 2002, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.

Sadio Mane misses World Cup qualifiers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Al-Nassr forward, Sadio Mane was ruled out of Senegal's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches due to an injury.

The 31-year-old missed the game against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Dakar on June 6 and will not be available for the trip to Mauritania on June 9.

His absence is a huge blow for the Teranga Lions, who are also without wingers, Krepin Diatta and Ismail Jakobs, for both qualifier ties.
